Greetings, readers! It is time for Undrafted’s annual Best Of list… Really, this is a Reader Appreciation email. If you’ve read anything on Undrafted this year, or listened to any of the podcasts, I really appreciate it, and encourage you tell a friend about this little newsletter. For reference, here are a few pieces that get at what I’m trying to do here… But most of all, have a happy and healthy 2024!
January
The Snyder Files as a whole were a deep dive into the Congressional investigation into Dan Snyder’s reign over the Washington football franchise, and as pointless as that investigation was, it DID reveal a lot about the nature of sports ownership.
February
A reminder that when you hear about the surveillance, you don’t just need to worry about faceless, Machiavellian villains like the NSA — you also need to worry about dopes like James Dolan.
March
On NIL’s failure to deliver pay equity, despite some promising early results.
April
I like it when I can use this newsletter to disagree with a standard Liberal Sports Take. Right now, the consensus is that the public should not pay for sports stadiums, when it’s quite obvious they should do so while municipalizing the teams.
May
The Lamar Jackson contract saga feels like it was ages ago, but it revealed a lot about class tensions.
June
I don’t exactly remember why I started writing about The Process, but this four part series was fun to write.
July
The A-Rod Chronicles
All the episodes of the series! The last 30 years of baseball, as told through the lens of our favorite player….
The A-Rod Chronicles were the biggest thing we did at Undrafted this year (or ever), and I’m super proud of it and think you should definitely tell your friends about it…
August
No more pining for owners of yore…
September
This was a quick fun piece about Coco Gauff’s personal finances.
October
Reflecting on why toxic workplaces never seem to go away, despite all the public scandals in recent years.
November
I was on the “Belichick sucks” bandwagon as early as January — and covered up until this week’s podcast ep — so I’m taking some credit for his allegedly imminent firing.
December
What does it even mean “to own” something, man?
